Wood as an element is a medium to work with, a palette in itself. The Larch Wood design team started with a vision to make products that used an under utilised Canadian wood, a species that has a beautiful bold grain and wonderful colour variation – the Eastern Larch – made infamous by Monty Python. The Eastern Larch is a truly overlooked northern tree whose days of boatbuilding and barn floors are long in the past.
We also work with the principle of the Golden Rectangle. You can see it in the proportions of many of our kitchen blocks and boards.
Since many of our customers have commented that our skillful choice of the end grain patterning on our cutting boards is evocative of traditional Japanese design, several years ago we decided to try our hand at a Canadian homage to the traditional Sushi board.
