At Larch Wood
we spent over a year in designing and testing our cutting boards.
The myriad patterning of the end grain of the larch tree was our
initial inspiration along with the durability of the end grain
as a functional and food safe product.
Having studied
the occurrence of the golden rectangle in nature and appreciated
its appearance in architecture and furniture design, we set out
to incorporate it into our boards.
Each individual
piece in all the cutting boards is a golden rectangle. The formula
is 1 to 1.618. Two of the boards, the Carvers Board and
Small, are both overall a golden rectangle giving them a visually
pleasing shape.
Since
introducing the cutting boards into the market they have gathered
a lot of attention as unique works of functional art, and have
been selling extremely well in select locations. We have also
supplied them to a critically acclaimed restaurant in Montreal
with their attractive logo laser engraved on each one.
